In-N-Out is famous for their not so secret menu items. Today we’ll be reviewing their Double-Double Animal Style, one of their most well-known burger offerings.

So what is Animal Style exactly? A standard Double-Double comes with two 100% American beef patties, two slices of American cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato and onions and topped with In-N-Out’s signature spread. Animal Style ups the ante by including grilled onions rather than sliced, adding pickles, slathering the burger with extra spread, and, most importantly, cooking the beef patties in mustard.

The mustard helps the beef patties crisp up and keeps them incredibly juicy while add some subtle flavor. The extra spread, which is similar to Thousand Island dressing with hints of relish, adds a tanginess that oozes from every bite. The cheese melts perfectly to hold all the elements of the burger together. The crisp pickles balance everything out with a subtle sour flavor. The lettuce and tomato are fresh and not wilted or slimy as you sometimes get from fast food restaurants.

As you can see in the photos, this burger is messy. You’ll likely want to keep this burger in its wrapper to avoid any ingredients from leaking out.

If you’re looking for a fast food burger bursting with flavor and the fresh ingredients, you aren’t going to do any better than the Double-Double Animal Style. This is the rare burger that lives up to the enormous hype. If you’re fortunate enough to have an In-N-Out in your area, you need to experience it for yourself.

Best of all, opting for Animal Style doesn’t add to the cost of the burger. The menu price for the Double-Double was only $3.95, which is very reasonable in today’s inflationary fast food landscape, though prices will vary based on location.
